If the propane only last 11 or 12 hours, how is that beneficial for Boondocking?
This thread seems to have become a built in vs portable thread, but if you cant feed it, it seems a moot point.
I would think a portable with pushbutton start based on the arguments given here would be the best compromise.
The real issue is how long does one plan to boondock.
A lp genset can carry you a few days. Anything longer you will need quite a few gas cans to get you through.
The OP has a rather large dual A/C rig. He will need a rather large portable to keep both A/C's going, even then he will use lots of fuel
I agree gas is more efficient than lp but feeding the genset gasoline will require hauling lots of gasoline. Which come with its own set of issues. A portable just doesn't have quite the same convenience factor
A portable with push button start is not quite the same
as a 5500 or bigger Onan that will run both A/C's without any other effort.
In today's age if you are truly an avid boondocker you would be wise to invest in solar and avoid climates that require A/C as much as possible.
I don't think any genset will keep you off the grid indefinitely, however a state of the art solar system will allow you to stay off the grid a long time.
