We have the onboard Onan 5500 gas. It provides us with 50 amp service. The push button is convenient. We had the generator included in the negotiations when we purchased our 5th wheel in 2015. We wanted the onboard generator for many of the reasons others have already stated. We travel with 2 dogs and want to be able to stop and see the sights and still have them in the A/C. Shortly after buying the 5th wheel a storm came through where we were camped, the campground was without power for about 4 hours. It was hot and extremely humid, however, we were able to stay comfortable the entire time with the generator. Everybody’s needs are different, so fortunately there are many options to accommodate them.
