Truck is rated for 3760 (payload). But you have to consider the weight of your passengers and hitch, right?
Somethings not right.
There is no 2500 4x4 GM truck with the Dmax that can carry 3760 lbs anywhere. Not even a 6.0 gazzer model.
The 3760 lb likely comes from the 3500 SRW models.
IMO you may have the wrong info or maybe not reading your trucks specs right. You can find your trucks GVWR/FAWR/RAWR on the drivers side door post.
Your truck should have a 10000 GVWR on the door post. The 2500 truck can weigh in the 7500 lb range leaving a 2500 lb gvwr payload.
Now lets do some axle load numbers. The 2500 GM truck has a 6200 RAWR and may weigh in the 3000 lb range leaving 3200 lb RAWR payload. A 17k lb trailer with a will severally overload the trucks RAWR numbers
Yeah the 2500 can pull a 17k trailer as it has the same engine/tranny front and rear axle as the 3500 SRW/DRW trucks. But it simply doesn't have the RAWR numbers to carry that much weight.
The truck would need higher rated tires/wheel and rear spring pack to carry a 14k-17k trailers pin weight.
