Any one towing with a F250 6.2 Gasser?

If so what brand of unit do you have? We are going to the RV show in Atlanta and will be looking at 5th wheels. We will be in the market for a new trailer some time this year.

We have a 2015 F250 6.2, we will not be towing anytime soon through high mountains, mostly just staying here on the east coast.

Looking for a unit that can handle some cold winter camping. No bunk house or outside kitchens. Looking for some ideas of what others are towing with a gas vehicle that like their units.

Most likely staying around 12,500 GVWR, hitch weight of around 2000 - 2200lbs.

Thanks
  • I have 2017 F250 4x4 6.5 bed pulling a 2015 Crossroad Cruiser CAF28SE 30'11"
And #10250 loaded. 14 mpg local 17mpg highway 9.5 pulling in Northwest Georgia.
The truch is great and we enjoy all the room in back seat. I do have the Reese slider fifth wheel hitch #15000 and it works well. I installed the electrical outlet in the side of bed to keep cord from rubbing on tail gate. Purchase from EBay and quick installation. You do have to drill hole in side of bed.

  • You're not going to have a pin weight of 2200 lbs or less with a 12,500 lbs 5th wheel. For those kind of numbers you need to be looking at a TT.
  • 6.4 Hemi w/3.73 towing a 11K loaded 5th wheel. It's a good not great setup. Truck has plenty of power but the Ram tranny gearing sucks and the 3.73 gearing isn't ideal. The Ford 6.2 w/4.30 and (presumably) good gearing from the tranny should handle the load just fine. In the end, my setup is okay. It's not like I'm a hazard on the road and block traffic. I'm in my third year with this setup and tow in the mountains out west. Financially, I could afford to get another truck but I get by well enough. Better gears and/or a better designed tranny would make a world of difference.
  • Thanks for all the replies, we have decided for now that we can get everything we want in a travel trailer and still be below our limit.

Always appreciate the helpful comments on here.

  • This might be a small item to think about. When we were shopping for a 5er, we wanted one where we could open the frig with all the slides closed. The idea was that when we stop for lunch, or just a road side rest, we wouldn't need to put out the slides in order to get a beverage or sandwich. Good Luck.
