Anyone own a Prime Time Sanibel 5er?

We went to a dealership to look at used and new this time. After finding none that did not smell, we are thinking seriously about buying new.

I just happened to walk into a Sanibel on the showroom floor while my DH was chatting with the salesman. I was impressed! It seemed that they made intelligent use of every space and thought of every possible need! Lots of storage and thoughtful touches!

So, I am wondering what the satisfaction level of owners have been? How sturdy are they, etc. They said that it was rated for full-time use. Has this proven to be true?

And what about double-pane windows? Is it a necessity?

Thanks for your help in advance!

I must say....reading on their forum, the some Sanibel units sound like a nightmare!!!

Can't speak for the durability, but walked through a few new ones this past weekend in New Hampshire and wasn't impressed. They had a little bit of superficial stuff that made it look nice on first glance, but you could see by a lot of choices they made that they were cutting corners. We scratched them off of our list.

I do agree on your point. What things did you see that indicated cutting of corners?

A few that I saw: small kitchen sinks, uncomfortable living room furniture (which we would readily replace), the bathroom sink was cheaped out...a dinky cheap sink with caulking to hold it in place. We would want to replace that.

Some of my reasons for liking it: residential fridge, geared for full-time living, lots of storage everywhere, and price point. They also had a nice, homey feel to them.

What year model was theirs? As I have been reading on the FR forum, they have had frame flex problems in earlier models...maybe even up to 2014 and later. I definitely need to find out if this issue has been eradicated in the newer models before buying.

Go to the forest river forum and look for the prime time section. You will read about several issues. Slide bottom wear, problems with welds on the front. Buyer be informed.

If I did that with any brand, I'd never own one. They all have their quirks.

  • We are on our second season with our 3601 and we have been very pleased with it so far. We don't full time but we do use it a lot during 8 months of our season. We generally are the kind of people that take extra steps to take care of stuff like lowering the slam lock doors easily and closing drawers and cabinets easily instead of letting them slam shut. If I see something that is coming loose like a screw or something I fix it right then and there. Something that really get under my skin is seeing someone open the tailgate on a truck by just pulling the latch and letting it drop. I mean you have to pick it back up, why cant you let it down the same way? LOL

Like I said, this is only our second season but we have had zero problems out of ours and it is so much quieter inside then anything we have had before because of the way it is insulated. We also love the dual climate control operated by one thermostat and how it is so quite. Watch TV at a normal level while the A/C is full blast. When we bought ours we looked at Montana, Alpine , Avalanche , Cedar Creek , Cardinal and one other that I can't remember and other than the Cedar Creek we felt that the Sanibel was built just as good and more bag for the buck than any of them with the exception of the Cedar Creek.
  • Met a Sanibel owner in Florida last year who absolutely did not like his trailer. He had delamination issues among other problems.
  • WE looked at a new Sanibel, at the end of last summer and honestly, the fit and finish were not all that good. They try to put in lots of glitz and bling, but no real bones. It is a typical lower mid-line 5er in my opinion.
