Are we just Too Picky!!

The DH and I are looking to upgrade from our TT to 5th wheel. We just picked up our 2014 3500 HD Silverado 4x4 Diesel. We went that way cause we didn't want to have any limitation for weight on the 5th wheel we pick out. There are some beautiful 5ths out there but really do people that design these trailers or any of them for that matter actually camp. Our biggest want is to have the theater seating across from the entertainment center so we can look straight on to the tv and not have our necks turned all the time. Just makes good since to us! Not that we really stay inside that much but in our retirement years we will be in it months at a time. Then we find if they have the living room set up that we like, then the kitchen lacks counter space or storage space or both. Salesmans always say you cant have it all. Well I say when you are talking 60000. and up for a unit we want it the way we want it! :) So are we too picky!!!!! Thanks Tara

  • Grumpy and Grandma! Congrats on your purchase! Yes we have been in one and love everything about it. Just beautiful!!! Only thing is it is too large. We are National Park and State Park and Federal land campers and we still want to be able to fit in those sites. So the longest we will consider is an 36 ft. Enjoy and thanks for sharing. :) Tara
  • We wanted those same things.....seating directly across from the tv, kitchen counter space. We have it now in our signature unit. They are definitely out there, you are not too picky, keep looking! Like you, we bought the truck first and then went looking. Our previous F250 was adequate, but maxed out with our smaller 5th wheel. The 350 SRW gave us more options. Good luck!
  • Not too picky at all. It seems silly to me to place the seating to the side of the television set so you have to crane your necks to see it. I have seen some that place the set at an angle toward the rear of the trailer and have the chairs and couch across from the set. However, I wonder if the chairs of the dining area get i the way of the viewing. Some people have talked about the front living room ones, but have complained a bit about the ceiling being a little too short for most people. If you look at that type of model you might keep that in mind.

Some things you can change yourself after purchase, some you can't.

Obviously you can't change the kitchen or bedroom.

You *can* change the layout and seating.

    We removed the hide-a-bed.
Replaced the factory swivel recliners with recliners we preferred.
(Neck twisters to look at the TV - now we face it).
Replaced the square table and 4 chairs with a drop leaf table & 2 chairs - when leaves are down, about 1/2 the space, relocated to where the hide-a-bed was.

In process of changing out the "garish" valances that belonged in one of Ali Babba's hangouts.

Interior designers and decorators leave a *LOT* to be desired!..:(

Get at least *close* to what you like - keep in mind the stuff you can modify (if you desire) and the things you can't..;)

    Good luck with the search!

  • oh I realize the cost. The ones we are looking at are in the higher price range. I just meant starting at 60000. plus!! Have looked at the Columbus but not the Cedar Creek. Thank you for suggestion.

Yeah, you probably are too picky. But you have every right to be as picky as you wish. All it really takes is money to get everything you want with no compromises. So you might be too picky for your budget. Because $60k is not high end for a custom coach.
  • I would think the Cedar Creek Silverback 33IK would be exactly what you want or the Columbus 320 RS.
  • Congratulations on the new wheels. If you find a brand you like but not the floorplan try contacting them and see if they can make the floorplan you want. I know the company that made ours has made custom toyhauler floorplans and have been friendly when it comes to customer service. Good luck in your search and have safe and Happy Camping.
