Attaching to walls

I was wondering how you guys attach things to the walls. We got out new toy hauler and we wanted to add towel bars/rack in the bathroom as well as a few others things through out but the walls seem thin and unable to support much of anything. I was told I have aluminum studs in the walls so that might complicate things. Thanks for any help.
  • I prefer to use mechanical fasteners and not just rely on glue...remember an RV is framed similar to a house, some type of wood panel often lines the interior walls. There is no one best way to install things on the walls of an RV, every situation is different. My mom had a TT, she needed handicap bars installed in the shower, for this I drilled through the interior wall, then used bolts with cap nuts on the back side in stainless...it looked great and is solid ....

I have had good luck with mounting a 3/4-inch back board first then mounting thing to the board using regular wood type screws...

I would use MOLY BOLTS to attach the large back board to the thin walls . This spreads out the weight over a large area and keeps you from pulling the screws thru the thin walls...

here are a few examples from GOOGLE search

  • We use an over-the-door towel rack for multiple towels. There are all sorts of over-the-
cabinet door hooks and bars on the market: Clickable Link

Command Hooks work on cabinets but not always on walls if you have that "airplane" type interior material.

And there's sticky-backed Velcro, too. Some of it has pretty good holding power.

We've heard too many horror stories from people drilling holes in their campers.

(congrats on her new TH, btw)
