I went and weighed the TV and FW it is as follows:
Truck door sticker
GVWR 10000
Payload 3000
...........
With FW no water on board(60 Gallon Cap or 480 lbs)
steer axle 4820
drive axle 6080
Trailer 8200
Total 19100
I think your biggest concern is that you are already 900# over truck GVWR. Ad that's before water (and other stuff?)
Ford can quite justifiably void your powertrain, brake and suspension warranties.
A liability discussion could be interesting if you were ever involved in an accident!
Bottom line - NOT ENOUGH TRUCK!
You fell into the low payload 3/4 ton trap!!!
Well only on the VIN sticker.
Yes, he is 900# over the listed GVWR, if he is aware of that it is his decision to continue. If he had purchased a 350 SRW, likely the same parts except for the VIN sticker you you state "Good to Go!!".
What concerns me the most is the 200# removed from the front axle. :h
That is just over 9% of the pin weight, the pin would need to be several inches rear of the axle to remove 9% of the pin weight from the front axle.
1st order of business is to reweigh the rig as either the hitch is installed too far back, or you were not all the way on the scale plate.
The other item that surprises me is the weight of the TV8,740# before hitching leads me to believe that the TV is fairly loaded with options, before GVWR he only has 1,260# of capacity for pin. Sounds like my situation.
The point is that is the TV enough to tow the 5er, That is his decision as it is over the VIN GVWR, but still under the axle ratings, just barely on the rear axle.
I can't chastise him as I tow a 5er the same size with my 2001 2500, and I have never had an issue.
Like I stated before I would be looking at the location of the hitch, or get a reweigh as no way should a 5er take weight off the front axle.
