Awning hangs up ???

We have a 7 year old 5er with an A&E electric awning. When I go to roll it out it hangs up and I then have to pull one of the arms, after that its good. It rolls up no problem. Its not bent, nothing appears to be catching the arms, I cleaned all the tracks. With the arms partly out I pushed them back toward the coach and seem to have good resistance from the shocks. The only thing I can guess is that the shocks are weaker than new and not doing the job. Any ideas? Thanks
  • Ours isn't electric, but when we roll it up, the frontmost arm does not always go back into place and able to lock the tabs. Have to back truck alongside and crawl into back of truck and physically push the front arm towards the rear in order to get the tabs to lock. Stays put once this is done, but a PITA.
  • I'm going to be your guys favorite person haha.......it's the shock arm. Look at it closely when it's open and you'll see some crud on it. I take a scotch brite pad and clean mine real good a few times a year and put a little silicone on that arm. Drove me crazy until I stumbled across that.
  • I had mine bind up and it was the fabric that had moved towards the rear in the groove of the tube. Had some help from sone friend and pulled it forward and now it works great. Both my awning were sloppily installed at DRV.

Think I was trying too hard looking for something bent, I got out the silicone spray and it works like a champ now. Thanks

I checked this and was good. Thanks
  • il, I got the same deal. Been going out and yanking on one of the arms for 3 years now. :R

on mine if you look closely on the arm that always needs yanking, I can see a place where the arm folds up where there is a rivet, pin or something, i can't remember exactly now, that is dragging.

I have had other issues to sort out other than that, so i just keep on yanking. :B

  • check to make sure the awning it self has not slid in the track. I had the same problem it will cause the arms to pull. I slide my awning back about 1 in. on the trailer it has worked fine since.
