awning toppers, yes or no?

Your going to get two sides. Those that have them will tell you yes. Those that have never had them will tell you a waste of money. I have them. Would I do it again? Yes, most definitely. Keep the interior cooler in hot weather, dryer in we weather when your closing up to move. No leaves inside when closing up.

Yes, I think awnings over the slides are a must, for me anyway. But this is where I actually am confused, too. The dealer is saying that there are toppers that go over the awnings themselves to protect the awnings from sun, weather, and a stray branch that might grab the awning toppers.

I think your getting confused. Awning topper? Never heard such a thing. Slide toppers? Yes. Awning? Yes. Now, he might be talking about a metal awning wrap? If thats the case, waste of money. After we damaged our roof and awning, we opted for the metal wrap. Never been happy with it.

Just put a topper on a TT we recently bought. Have always had them on the MH.

Last year we were in a state camp ground in the large pines. There was a guy, without a slide topper) going around looking for a step ladder so he could get up with a broom to clean all of the large pine needle droppings off of his slide before bringing it in.

He'd tried to bring it in without cleaning them off. The slide gasket pushed them all to the edge of the slide where the bunched up and wouldn't let the slide fully retract.

I know what you are talking about and I think they are a great idea. I would love to be able to retrofit my awning with one of these at a reasonable price. They seem to really protect your awning in weather and especially sun damage. Because mine did not come with anything like that I put a cover over mine whenever we are not using it to keep the sun from rotting the first layer of it away. It seems to be working very well but can be some trouble to put on and take off.

Well, I'm looking at the dealer price list and it is specifically written "A @ E awning toppers w/metal caps."

We have had awning toppers on this 5ver for about 8 years now. For all the reasons mentioned already, overall they are a benefit. Buttttt you need to understand and accept that when the BIG wind comes up they will rattle big time, even enough to easily keep you awake at night. We own an RV Resort lot in Lake Havasu Az. where we winter much. Wind there can be very big at times. We have tried the Wedge inflatable and about every other gimmick mentioned on forums like this. We have had technicians try to tighten the material with zero results. Weve tried things that look silly or ugly. Just saying, nothing really works in the big wind.

I wouldn't have slides without the toppers. I don't know about the need for the metal caps. We had 3 toppers put on: 1 large slide, 1 medium slide and 1 bedroom slide. It cost us around $900.

What you pay depends on the number of slides and their lengths. I wouldn't pay more than a couple hundred dollars total for the metal covering. Our slide toppers are 6 years old and still work fine. The toyhauler is stored in the open with no weather protection.
