We will be getting our new to us Keystone Everest tomorrow and one of the things the dealer found and corrected was that the two group 34 AGM batteries were bad so he replaced them with one group 27 deep cycle. Our current trailer has two group 27 marine/rv deep cycles. Is this a good deal or would we be better off with two group 34 deep cycles? There is no room for two 27's.Bob

Just something to consider...if you never boon-dock and always have hookups, you don't need two batteries...

something sounds real fishy,,, new agm,s bad???? the dealer could turn them in and get you new ones, the ONE BATTERY he is giving you is about 85 bucks compared to two agm,s about 400. bucks. tell him you,ll do the replace ment on the batteries. in my opinion he,s conning you out of those AGM.s .

Yup, gave you a cheapo battery and he will turn the 34s in for warranty replacement. Amazing how dealers steal from their customers. Even telling you what a great guy he is when he did it.

The trailer had sat for a while without the batteries connected and they were completely dead and pretty dirty. They probably did need replacement. What I wonder is whether the 27 will give me enough juice or whether I should ask for two 34's instead. They are not going to give me two new AGM's, I don't think.Thanks for the quick comebacks. This is something I will have to deal with today.BobI know when I bought my used one they only have to supply you with one standard battery, which seems to be 27's, as this is a used unit then you would have to pay if you want a better set up.Some may not understand you are not getting a brand new unit, therefore no warranty.

They were group 24's as are the new ones. Thanks for catching me on that. Things are going well. We have made it from Georgia to Louisiana so far and I did my first back in with the new rig last night. The fact that it is 3'longer and has a sidewinder really makes a difference. Just another learning curve!

Thanks to all who posted about my "cultural differences" post. I'm glad so many of you agree.

I opted to go with only one battery when the other went bad since I'm plugged in most of the time. Given the weight of those batteries I'm also glad to have trimmed the weight of my fiver a little.

Next time you have to change batteries, think about going with 2 6v golf cart batteries. I got mine at Sam's Club and a bridge cable at NAPA. With judicious light use, and my 45w solar panel, I'm almost indefinite on power, now. If I upgraded my solar to 80-100w, with a much better converter, I =would= be, no problem.

Go & have those AGMs independently checked. Charge them & load test them. AGMs should have a lifespan of at least 8 years. Wet cells, deep cycle or otherwise, typically ony 3-4 years.

The AGM is worth well over double the wet cell. I swapped out 2 group 24 wet cells for a single AGM 4D. Fewer battery connections to cause problems. No dealing with maintenance either. Yeah, that 4D cost something like $400 but I won't be thinking about it for many years to come.

Not saying that the dealer is trying to do you over but AGMs trump wet cells any day of the week & the ones you have, or had, may have simply been in a discharged state, from which AGMs recover far better than wet cells.

This former NY'er has been in the south, and elsewhere, long enough to say y'all. But I admit I still find myself saying "you guys" even when it is mixed company.

I also understand where the OP is coming from with the trust thing. My better half, born far from NY, often tells me to relax and that "not everyone is out to take you!." :)

That's most southern people. We say, "you all" and in other places they say, "you guys". Most people are good and the media has a field day making everything and everyone seem bad. But we don't mind. Most of them suffer from BDHO. Enjoy your new to you fifth wheel.

When we bought our fifth the battery boxes were empty.
They installed 2 fresh batteries before we picked it up.
