Bed platform height

My hauler did not have a platform when I bought it; first owner took it out for some reason and second owner just threw a matress on the floor. I built one a couple of years back, but it's not very high (maybe 9") and the whole thing is still hard to walk around (Salem LE 32 SRV Sport). Even with the fore/aft layout it should still be easier to walk around. Mattress is a short queen, also new.

Anyone know the standard platform height, or a recommended height based on another dimension? The nose is vertical for a couple of feet, then cuts back at a pretty sharp angle; I'm thinking maybe the mattress should be level with that crease. Either way, I can't find another LE to compare, nor pics.

Any help is appreciated.

  • Wife is a bed hog as it is.

18 - 25" seems right, according to the link.
  • Swapping to a full/double size mattress (54x74) would provide the walk around space you're wishing for, versus the wider/longer queen mattress size (60x80).

  • Here is a link that may help. Ours seems to be sized so all those rubbermaid storage bins fit perfectly.
