I always LOCK my handle closed and slip the break away cable into the lock.
Not locked don't pull away.
Until some distraction takes your attention away at the wrong time. Unless you're perfect.
I'm one of those easily distracted people, unfortunately. I can see the Bed Saver as good insurance - just as rconkin found it could have been. - fj12ryderExplorer IIIShouldn't you have door savers too just in case you forget to close your doors before you pull away? :) Slide savers in case you forget to put your slides in? :) Ramp savers in case you forget to put the ramp door up? :)
- chrizgExplorerBeen talked about many times over but the bed saver is not needed with the B&W. It is open or closed, no guess work. If you are just too busy with other stuff happening around you not to pay attention enough that you won't drop your expensive rig on your expensive truck then get a bed saver. The other hitches that you have to guess or can't see the hitch pin easy the bed saver is a no brainer.
- MrDExplorerThank you all for the great replies, my last hitch was a reese with a slide bar. that was also one that once it is locked and you see the bar behind the pin you are good as gold and I had it for 10 years with no problem. This seems to be the same. I don't get distracted when hitching. If I do I'll start over from the begining and double check everything.
Thanks

I have had a B&W for around 6 years and this is the first time anyone has said they dropped their RV with a B&W. I have never seen a damaged bed with a B&W.
You can't stop all accidents from happening but for me with the evidence and IMHO foolproof latching system of the B&W I will spend my money elsewhere. - Cummins12V98Explorer III

Great points. I don't need to be protected all the time, I just need to be responsible for my action. - LantleyNomadNever say, never! Regardless of the type of hitch a Bedsaver will also save you from operator error!
As mentioned above being distracted can occur with any brand hitch.
I imagine operator error is at the root of most drops.
Seldom does the hitch just fail or the latch just breaks and lets loose.
While I agree some hitches latch easier than others, drops usually are the result of human error not mechanical failure.
A bedsaver is foolproof and works with all types of hitches even the B&W!
The bedsaver was designed for those with CRS syndrome. - fj12ryderExplorer IIIIf it was $15-$20 I'd agree that it can't do any harm. But over $200? I think I'll save that money toward diesel fuel or campground fees. I'm not made of money so I have to decide what is really useful and what can be given a pass. With my hitch I consider myself safe. And the $200 went towards a TST TPMS. I figure I'll get more use out of that. :)
You can't completely protect yourself from doing something silly, so you balance your choices.
