Bent awning arm. What now?

I was attempting to put out the awning on our 2003 Jayco Designer Legacy on Saturday and it was not extending all the way. When I pulled down on the forward arm to help it, the arm bent. The part of the arm that slides in and out of the lower arm is what bent. Now it is impossible to put the awning up or down. Does anyone know if there are major replacement parts for these old Carefree of Colorado awnings?
  • Carefree referred me to RV Awnings in Florida. I spoke to them on the phone yesterday evening and I believe they are going to be able to get me going.
    Thanks,

I have one from an older trailer that I no longer own. If you want it, just arrange UPS pre-paid shipping.

  • Carefree is all over the Web so I imagine you can do a parts search on your awning model no.
  • I bent the awning arms on our awning by not retracting the awning before a wind event.

The dealer where we purchased our RV had a pile of awning parts and pieces that they had salvaged from other awning repairs. I was able to pull out both pieces that were needed to repair the damage.

Maybe your dealer would let you look through their old awning parts too.
  • In Arizona there is a place called RV Salvage. They may have a set. you can go on line and do a search for RV salvage or junk yards. Also check with yo local rv store, some of the older mom and pop places may have some in stock. OR Check at the rv repair facility in your area and see if they have replaced someone elses, may be able to get a couple arms for little $$$ from them OR, do you have a steel or aluminum supplier in town that has that material and make one, or check the model and get the # and order from the manufacture. Worse case is replacing the unit. Good Luck & Be Safe
  • Carefree of Colorado has its own replacement parts site: here.

If they can't help you, and you're SURE it can't be repaired, try a local RV shop or PPL motorhomes.
