BFG Commercial TA reliability

Charlie,I would question the remark about not warranting the tires on a trailer because I had purchased 4 new TA's a few months prior to the recall. They warranted them and replaced them with 4 new XPS Michelins. Even though there is considerable difference in price they were free to me mounted and balanced.Michelin owns BFG.

X2 I went thru the same thing. My TA's were 18 months old with no issues but were on the recall list. I talked directly with BFG and they knew the tires were on a trailer but replaced them with Michelins also. Costco did the work as that is where I had purchased the TA's.

Of course BFG replaced them even though they were on a trailer. The tires were on a nationwide recall monitored by NIHSA. Call BFG and ask if they are covered now.

Dandy-were the tires that were replaced with Ribs part of the recall?

The auto shop at work has had bad luck with Comm TAs ... Lots of tread separations. Craig

Not for me. Thought switching over to the Commercial TA's would solve my woes. Did get 27 months out of them which was a new record since I switched from ST's :)

Discount Tire covered two of my failed tires while I paid to replace the other two.

On edit: My tires were not part of the recall.

On our last trip out we lost a left rear tire on the truck. It was a 3 year old BFG Commercial TA. Date code 3411,Took out the bed side. Had 80 psi speed was 65 MPH. no more BFGs for me.

Is the consensus still the same, that these LT tires run a close second behind the Michelins and Bridgestones?

I've ran them for close to 15 years on my RV s/trucks and equipment trailers with no problems.

It does look like some BFG Commercials made in the 2010-2012 era had issues (recalled two sizes) like the Goodyear G614 or the Goodyear Wranglers of the '00 era have went through. Goodyear fixed the problems with those two tires and seem to be one of the better choices. BFG as Goodyear will fix the issues if they already haven't.

If you have had good luck with them I wouldn't worry about what a hand full of owners/non owners says.

BFG still recommends them for trailer service and with a full written warranty.

I wouldn't say any poly fabric carcass LT brand runs a close 2nd to a Rib or the R-250 or any commercial grade all steel ply carcass tire. These tires are in a class all by themselves.

Last trip out I had a Commercial TA blow, it was a few months over 5 years and had 3 patches inside. Do not know if that had anything to do with it. :( Probably will get 4 new Commercial TA's.
