We had this happen twice last year. Found the nest with eggs in them both times. I pulled out the nest and threw away. Didn't find them till we were home from storage lot. We now fill the pin box openings with foam rubber. None so far this year.
I agree with your husband, if they are still there when time to go camping, take them for a ride.
