Black water won't drain

Solids may be stacked up into toilet pipe inlet to black tank. If this is the case the ice will not be able to get into the tank. Stick a broomstick handle down the toilet and stir to break up pile. Sometimes these pipes are installed very close to the bottom of the tank and solids get hung up between tank and pipe.

We have a feeling it hasn't gone down to the black tank but tried stirring things up as far down as we could from the toilet with a metal rod and also the snake. Who knows if the snake just coiled around before the clog. Really appreciating all your thoughts and suggestions.

Just because the handle pulls out doesn't mean the drain gate is open. Valve?

Have you tried an old-fashioned plunger yet?

Man, what a crappy situation to be in! (Come on, you've all been waiting to say that).

I don't think ice cubes is going to work. A video on a well known rv web site debunked that myth. What you need, depending on what is causing the clog, physical force to break it up. If it's is a piece of plastic pipe as some suggested, you might have to cut out and replace the piece that's clogged. If it is just waste, you might want to try the broom handle if you can get a straight shot or use a wand with a spray head.

You have a pyramid or poop pile.

As part of my tank draining I now do two full bowl flushes. "Bomb the pile!"

Been there/done all of the above. We were not using enough water when flushing and the dreaded pyramid had developed. It was as hard as rocks and impenetrable. We used hot water, a snake, ice, etc. It would help for a day or two and then bang! Back again. $175 paid for a tank cleaning service. It took the lady 45 minutes and was and it was horrible. Here is the advice from the service: 8 seccond flushes - more water!! When emptying the tank, fill the tank all the way until your spouse see water coming up the sewer pipe at the base of the toilet - dump. Keep ALL of your tanks closed. Keep ALL of your tanks closed. Keep all of your tanks closed. Dump only when full and use the GEO method or Clagon bath beads/Pine Sol. (1 cup Beads/64oz Pine Sol) To ALL Tanks. Chemical treatments give false sense of security. Your mileage may vary............

I had the same problem this summer. The tanks were full and would not drain. I put in a bottle of Rid Ex. I then let it sit for about 4 hours. Finally I took a snake and ran into the hose hookup side and worked it pretty hard until it started flowing well. I then took a water hose and ran it inside and flushed out all kinds of debris.

For storage I put in more Riddex and some water and also some Antifreeze.
I was told that you never want to leave the tank dry, when storing.

As for adding Ice, probably in your case not going to work if the tank is full. The clog will be at the bottom of the tank. And the ice will be floating at the top. Good luck.

I have cleaned out pyramids by adapting our honey wagon hose down to 1" spa hose then sucking the clog up through the toilet. If the clog has dried out and hardened, likely OP will need a pressure washer as suggested before.
Our mobile rv repairman has one that goes in the drain through an adaptor. He charges $200 to clean both tanks with it.
