Block or not to block

My new fifth wheel is going to be in the same location for 2 years. My question is should I put the RV on blocks taking the weight off the jacks and tires? The RV has 6 jacks and 4 tires which should get great stability. Thanks. Ian

  • I've stored mine on stands for several years. It doesn't make a bit of difference for ST tire life but it also takes the weight off of the rubber suspension parts... I've had ezflex before and morryde on this one. Craig

Check out what Goodyear says on long term storage.

and from Carlisle Tire and Rubber

    – Keep trailer tires in a cool dry place and out of direct sunlightduring storage.
    – Use tire covers to protect tires from the harsh effects of directsunlight, moisture and temperature extremes.
    – During extended storage, use a thin piece of wood or other surfacebarrier under tires to extend tire life. For seasonal or extreme longterm storage, elevate the trailer on blocks to take the weight off thetires. Reduce the air pressure and cover the tires to protect them from direct sunlight.

We lived in our 28' 5th wheel for 7 months through the winter. I used stacks of 3' sections of RR ties placed at different angles to each other at the 4 corners. This keeps them from all rolling one direction. I used wood blocks under the axle next to the U bolt with 2" x 8" under the tires. Landing jacks just for stabilization. For 7 months I kept the tires at max pressure.
  • I'd get it off the rubber and cover the tires also. If I know I won't use the trailer for a couple weeks only I jack it up and put stands under the frame. Takes me only 10-15 minutes to do. That way the tire won't absorb water or flat spot
