Blue Ox Bedsaver

Who uses the Blue ox bedsaver and can you tell me how far in inches the 5th wheel can drop before the bedsaver catches it? It looks to be 2-3", but I don't see any solid distance shown in thier ads. If it dropped more than that I would think might hit the bed sides if on an incline sideways.

I've been trying to decide if a Blue Ox is something I should install. I'm new to 5th wheels. I always chock the wheels and test pull with the front landing gears up about 1" from the ground. If my 5'er does drop its only going to drop that 1". Won't this work?

Your procedure will work for as long as you tow a fifth wheel as long as you continue to do the procedure you just explained, and you check to make sure you are not high hitched, which I have never understood how one can high hitch. I would have to guess they don't even bother to look ,which again does not make sense to me .

In theory on one should need a bedsaver. However in reality drops occur all the time.
Someone just posted of dropping their rig last week.
If you're confident you will never get distracted, break your routine, lose focus or otherwise forget what your doing you do not need a bedsaver.
If you want insurance against a mistake, get a bedsaver.
95% of fiver owners do not have a bedsaver.
Experienced Rv'ers still drop their rigs. They make/developed Bedsavers for a reason.
Only you can decide what works for you.

  • Mine is about a 2 inch drop on my Curt Q-5 hitch.
  • As others have said the distance varies depending on adjustment, hitch, and truck however 2-4 inch is a safe average figure
  • My drop is about 3-4" - I have put the pin into the cup and raised the legs to be sure it would not hit the rails - rail to camper clearance is about 7"

  • It is adjustable. Mine is three to four inches. My camper sets up more then that over the bed rails.
