Blue Ox Bedsaver

Anyone know the correct Blue Ox for a SuperGlide 4100 16K? Blue Ox only has a listing for SuperGlide 16K without mentioning which 16K. But there have been several 16K models made by Pullrite over the years. Browsing online I've found at least 3 different Blue Ox part #'s for a SuperGlide 16K. I called Blue Ox and they didn't know themselves! Awaiting a call back from them after they research it.

Save your money and buy something fun. :) Or buy some fuel and travel.

Anyone here have a bedsaver installed that did save their bed?

We have had the bedsaver on two trucks for over 7 years. Never use it because so far the above has not happened. it will sooner or later.

I installed a Blue Ox bedsaver on my Curt 20K roller hitch. It has a bit of adjustability, depending on how high you mount it. Mine is about as high as will fit due to the curvature of the hitch. I tend to back up till the king pin is over the bed saver and then lower it an inch or two so it allows the hitch head to carry the trailer load while hitching. I have bumped it a time or two if I get the king pin too low. So far, and this is our second 5th wheel, no drops yet but it is cheap insurance IMHO.



To install the bed saver, 4 holes have to be drilled into the hitch for the attachment bolts. Some hitches use current bolts/holes, to connect the bed saver. The bolts, washers and nuts came with the Blue Ox. Not at all a difficult install, if you have a drill and correct sized drill bits.

I've had a bedsaver for years and for reasons other than a drop while hitching. Some folks are under the false impression that their 5th wheel trailer will only drop on their bed during the hitching process.
Many trucks beds are damaged from drops caused by vandals who like to pull pins/levers while the rig sits in a rest area/etc.

We've also had beds damaged from broken hitch parts which is rare but has happened.

Some folks myself included have camped on very unlevel ground in a primitive area which has the truck and trailer off camber to each other. I've seen and had wedged pins in these cases and have seen trailers dropped on the bed when they suddenly separated.

Some folks have mistakenly believed their hitch brand or jaw type couldn't be hi pinned or won't allow a drop .... ... it finally happened just one time.

In all cases some type of pin catch would have saved the bed.

Some folks also use the 5th wheel latch kit from http://www.5thwheellatchkit.com/.

Both devices are simply a safety catch.

My drop is about 2" after the pin would loose contact with the hitch.

Haven't needed it yet, and hope to never find out if it works.

I've hauled my fiver about 50,000 miles, and I've never dropped it on the bed.

However, I have a Bed Saver. :)

I would also look at the blue ox pin lock. It doesn't look like it takes up any bed space.

In theory on one should need a bedsaver. However in reality drops occur all the time.
Someone just posted of dropping their rig last week.
If you're confident you will never get distracted,break your routine, lose focus or otherwise forget what your doing you do not need a bedsaver.
If you want insurance against a mistake, get a bedsaver.
95% of fiver owners do not have a bedsaver.
Experienced Rv'ers still drop their rigs. They make/developed Bedsavers for a reason.
Only you can decide what works for you.
