brakes acting funny

I have a 2012 jayco eagle 5er. we hooked up and headed home last week from the beach and it felt like the brakes were not working right. like my truck was being pushed. the brake control said i was hooked up and working. the gain would go up when i mashed the brakes like it always does. i pulled over unhooked even turned the truck off and started all over. the rest of the ride home the brakes seemed ok still a little pushy at times. after getting home and cleaning it up and pulling it to the place in my yard that i store it the brakes again didnt seem to work at all. it was pushing my truck big time. then the brakes on the right side started grabbing. left some good evidence in my drive way. any ideas or help on what to check would greatly appreciated.
  • My brakes would grab when moving slow like through a park or stop and go traffic. Took it to Les Schwab had the bearings repacked and brakes adjusted problem solved. Mechanic said only one shoe out of eight making contact. Only took a couple of hours.

Did you tow your 5er to the beach, and if so, how did the brakes feel on the way there? If the brakes felt fine on the way and malfunctioned on the trip back, you should be able to narrow it down. First thing I'd do is check the seven way. Like someone else said, maybe you bent a pin or got some moisture or sand in there. I'd start by cleaning your plug connections real good and then go from there.....

  • Cure for brakes acting 'funny': go to each wheel & tell them to 'get serious or you will stomp on them'.

    Sorry, could not resist.

Share your problems though. Replaced all 4 plates with shoes & magnets mounted. Hardly any wear on front axel shoes. ????
  • How long since last bearing repack? If it has been more than two years it is defiantly time for a repack and brake inspection.

I have a Prodigy P3 and a year ago I had a similar braking problem. When I checked the current draw I found the current was low for the voltage applied. With a four wheel trailer the current will be about one amp per volt applied.

I found a bent connector in the 7 way. Replaced the connector and problem solved. This is the reason I chose the Prodigy P3 controller. Best diagnostics on the market.
  • No i have not applied any grease to that anything in that area
  • Did you pump grease in the hubs without knowing where it was going??? Chris
