Break away brake cable

Where do you hook your break away brake cable.
Do you hook to the hitch somewhere?
Do you hook to bed rail?
How far in do you hook it?

Using a carabiner, I do the same thing. I also encased the cable in a length of split loom to prevent it from getting caught up under a rail, etc.
  • We have ours hooked on to the side wall of the truck, it's high enough to keep it from getting into the hitch, but not mounted on the hitch.

If the hitch flies out of the bed of the truck, you have worse problems than worrying about the breakaway.

That's where I connect mine too

I use a "quick link" and it serves the additional protection of insuring that the safety latch is latched and will stay latched.
  • I bought one of those fastway, I think that's what they are called. It shows in my pic how I hook it up. It works great. No more getting caught. It cost like 14.00.
