RV's and new trucks are loaded with options because that's where the profit is for the dealer. I agree that not everyone wants a fireplace, big screen TV, plush recliners and such in an RV.
The cost of building a stripped down model and a loaded one is about the same, but the markup on the options is huge.
I say keep your old unit, modify it to your needs and go enjoy camping your way.
