My take....I've worked a lot of years and grown my business to enjoy what my wife and I like. We bought a new Pinnacle last year, and love it. We plan on starting with some 3 or 4 month trips, hopefully in a year or so. I bought the coach because it was the one both of us liked. After a couple weeks, it starts to get small to us. No complaints and would buy again in a heartbeat. We never took expensive vacations, never traded cars or trucks every few years, and worked ourselves to the place we are where we can enjoy what we like, and having a high end coach is what we decided to do. When we do make it to the next phase, yes we will probably buy a new higher trim 3500. Why? I plan on spending a lot of time behind the wheel and I want to be at ease when we are on the road as we do when we are set up. We've owned older, smaller rvs, and for long term traveling I think bigger is for sure better, just my thoughts....
another comment that does make a lot of sense..
thanks to all the comments, even the derogatory comments. I need to learn how to communicate better. Youd think at 51 id have learned.
I had a long winded post typed out, then saw you posted this.
There are few "derogatory comments" posted here - if any, depending on how you read them. Mine, earlier in this thread, certainly wasn't at all. I had missed where you said you were an American, I thought you were from another country when I read your initial posts.
You posted what could be taken as a derogatory post, and then seemingly got offended by the responses. This is an open forum, all different people post all different things.
Also, did you really pay $9,000 for a brand new diesel Ford in 1999? I bought a 2000 F250 diesel with 40,000 miles on it in 2005, and was happy paying $10,000.
If you bought a used truck, then you should compare the cost of used trucks taking into consideration time - prices do go up over time, especially decades.
I regret mentioning my 99 f250. Irrelevant. But, to answer your question I bought it used 2 months ago for $7k with 240k on it. the 7.3 is good to go to 500k miles. I put brand new brake; calipers and all, changed all fluids, the transmission was already new, added a "chip" for tow shifting programming, and replaced all hoses and the belt. so I am at about $9k. the truck will likely be incredibly reliable up to 500k with proper maintenance and will pull 85% of the weight per manufacture specs that a 2016 f250 will.
However, as was pointed out, the 7.3 is a noisy SOB but I love the grunt. the chip gave it the low end power so I dont need to rev it. new trucks monitor the EGT thus they can make power with out a human needing to carefully watch over things like my old 99.
I spent 2 months researching and searching for this truck. those who dont have the time or intelligence, or just have disposable income dont need to go through an exercise like I did. although, since my credit rating is currently 845 i could have just ordered it all up in one day and made a payment.
My post was a selfish request for help to understand why us americans buy these new 5ths that are HUGE, have the exact same decor and layouts and use extremely cheap components, cabinets, counter-tops, flooring, walls, doors, ceilings and in some case, as was pointed out cheap illegal welds. my 2004 unit has amateur welds on it as well. i can tell the guy doing them was just wanting to get another unit done, quickly.
I still dont understand it. Especially new units that are going to depreciate rapidly.. I mean rapidly, about as fast as a reeses peanut butter cup.
I also threw in the trucks.. which added more complications.. Ford is making $13k profit on a f150. I cant imagine the profit on a 1 ton.
I still dont get why so many americans go into debt on these things. They are holding their value too.. 2 yr old trucks are still outrageous.. hell, 6 yr old units are crazy money.
i do understand why those who have the cash do it however.. they are very comfortable and powerful and versatile units. Im jealous, but not so jealous I will go into debt to keep up with them.
Funny, ford is still the top player after screwing us all with their 6.0l diesel.
But as usual I digress..
I truly am sorry to those i clearly insulted.
