camper styling in america 2017

I dont get it, why does everyone want a 5th that looks like a typical american home? Quite honestly most of your campers "look" nicer than my modest 1986 condo.

Ive searched high and low for a 5th that has a rugged cabin like feel because I want to go CAMPING.

Id be embarrassed to own a dual slide with center island setup. The thought of owning one makes me feel like Im trying to prove something that I am not.

Apparently I am the only one that feels this way because ya'll just LOVE these huge modern units and pay thru the nose for them.

And as long as I am ranting, do you all realize that this new brown colored exterior fad is going to be a real problem with UV rays? These nice looking units are going to look horrible if not kept under cover.

I bought a 2004 fleetwood so I can get my feet wet and figure out what I want before plunking down $40k.. so far, I cannot find even one new modern unit Im interested in from a style stand point.. I feel SILLY walking into one of these things. So far Im pretty happy with my Terry superlide bunker.. has all I need and I dont feel like Im trying to prove anything.. decor is an 90's look but I can fix all that over time. also, my feet can be full of dirt and I can walk into the unit and not feel guilty.. although, the carpet has to go :)

I must be a real fool to not understand all of this.

Oh yeah, and $60k for a TRUCK? Have ya'll lost it? My 1999 ford diesel for $9k has ALL I need.. I dont get it.. Do ya'll just have disposable income you arent comfortable hanging onto?

Perhaps I am just jealous.. on the other hand, no monthly payments here.. Im not tied down to my job.

Do ya'll just sit in your campers when you are camping? if thats the case, I get it.. I thought the point was to spend time outside though?

why do I have the feeling Im going to regret this post.. :)..

I sort of agree with you about interior styling, my 08 Cougar interior looks like the inside of a Bordello (not that I know what one would look like).

I'm always impressed with how the European campers look inside even some of the Australian units. Very clean and simple.

As far as new trucks go some people have the money and want the newest and the best. If they can afford it more power to them, that's America.

To go into long term debt for a $60k truck, I don't think that's the right path to take, but some people have no choice, that too is America.

Hi Ron. Debt or no debt, $60k is an amazing amount of money for a truck..

In all honesty, I think Im just jealous.

As for the euro campers.. they look sterile like doctors offices.

As far as me being frugal indicated by another post.. I have a big screen tv like the rest of you. I also have them in my 2004 camper.. Im a piggy american and proud of it. :)
  • ok heres my rant,we live in camper 4 months in florida,i have a king bed,big shower,3 slides,2 air cons, fireplace, and im comfortable.i used to tent camp but im older now and like comfort.when im dead,it will be for a long time so i choose to live now.enjoy your frugal lifestyle as you see fit,we will do same.the only time im in my camper is when its raining or after dark, usually fishing or kayaking in florida.as far as money goes,ya only go around once in this world and ive never seen a luggage rack on a hearse.have a good day, buckeyebob!!
  • If you want to go CAMPING, buy a tent, toss it in the back of your truck, have a beer, and quit worrying about what others want or drive. Personally I like my condo on wheels
  • We own a 42' fifth wheel because the wife wants a home when we are on vacation. It's nice to have enough room to spread out with 2 teenagers and 2 large dogs. We also take it to our land so we have large home there when needed. Yes it's expensive but in reality we've worked our buts off for this. And we cant take the money with us when we die. Our truck was purchased used for a 1/3 the price of new. Oh and we dont the really camp we more or less go on vacation and it just happens to be in a camper.
