This topic and replies is a good example of why some may be reluctant to post or have quit. Much disapproval and "judgement" is woven throughout the original and many of the responses probably including my previous post. It brings out the sensitivity of people about being criticized or questioned in any way about their choices. But I see nothing wrong with the topic. It's just folks freely throwing out their thoughts and stimulating discussion.

I've thought for a long time that the interiors were designed by '60's hippies suffering from acid flashbacks. :-) Personally, I don't mind solid, contrasting, colors with a =little= patterning, but what we get is sometimes just horrible. Add that and the fact that almost all but the cheapest rigs seem to have vinyl seating... I guess these same burnt out interior designers have never suffered from that condition we call down here "swamp a$$". =Anything= that breathes is much preferable to something that doesn't, especially since the vast majority of people do their camping in the summer months. I like a bit of "homey" feel, but the stark, Ikea-like interiors of the Aussie (sorry RobertRyan) and Euro campers just leaves me cold. I =can= understand the need to have simple interiors for the Aussies, and toyhaulers in general, simply from the fact that they get DIRTY, and that style is a whole lot easier to clean out. But for me (actually the DW, but that means me), the comforts of home are what she, er I, want. :-)

Here they would run very quickly in the opposite direction if you turn up with a US style interior.
Tiffin is selling limited numbers of the Allegro Breeze( made RHD in the factory) People like the exterior styling and the quality is reasonable for the units, but the interiors are very much an acquired taste.

I just think that, besides the practicality of a minimalist interior for a dusty environment, Aussie interiors are still very "European city flat" in style. They always remind me of Bauhaus Design interiors we studied in an architecture class I had. :-)

Ok let me take another stab at this. I buy new, and keep things a long time. I'm willing to accept depreciation from new, in trade for knowing the history and care of it from new.

As to the debt part of it, that is not relevant at all. Personally I pay cash for my vehicles and trailers, but the difference between paying cash or financing it is really a decision best made between the individual and his tax adviser. The real question is, can you afford it ? I just prefer being debt free, but I can understanding the accounting side of financing certain things.

I agree with you on principle that if a person is stretching themself thin financially to buy a truck and trailer that is either financed or paid for, then in that case they would have been better off to buy used/older to stay more affordable.

An often repeated complaint on this forum is the low quality of the RV's that are produced. People like to say, "we would never put up with this from the car industry".
In my case, I have now pulled my Funfinder right at 40,000 miles. The only expense on it has been that I replaced the inexpensive factory fit tires with higher quality replacements. No other repairs that cost any more than a little bit of my own labor.

By comparison, in the last 40,000 miles of use, I don't even want to add up what we have spent repairing the Ford truck, and for that matter, I have spent some money repairing the Nissan truck as well. So, of the three, the Indiana-farm-boy-built trailer wins out over the KY built Ford, and the TN built Nissan.

I go back to my earlier suggestion: if you like the floorplan of your current trailer, then refit the interior in any color or style you like. It sounds like you really like your truck, so there you go, you have that half of the situation figured out to your satisfaction.

As mentioned I once owned a 7.3 PSD F-250 and it was a great truck with a great motor. But it does not compare to my current truck and no way does it compare or is as capable as a 2016 6.7 F-250.
At the end of it all people buy new stuff because they want it. Don't assume they are brainwashed or misguided.
Sure they could have bought a 99 F250 but not everyone wants a 17 year old truck! Or a 10 year old camper.
THere is nothing to really figure out. The world moves on. Ford continues to build trucks and the next generations continue to buy them. This is not Cuba
where consumers are forced to recycle what they have because there are no new vehicles available.
This is the USA where we have lots of choices. Some choose old some choose new,some pay cash, some finance, some are young and just starting out, some are old ready to retire. Some have unlimited budgets, some are working with their last dollar.
Trying to fit everyone into a one size fits all box is pointless.

I do agree with OP regarding "styling". I LOVE "campers" I always want to stop and browse. With that said, I am somewhat saddened by the fact that the newer ones are not appealing to me.

I too spend 5 months living in my camper in Florida. Due to that, I want a full size fridge and an oven. I am surprised at the number of newer campers that just have a tiny little fridge and no oven.

I am happy with my little OLD camper, but I do know it likely won't last forever so I keep scouting for it's future replacement. I am also disheartened by the reported lack of quality in the new campers as well.

So far my next potential is currently an older camper as well. As it turns out, the interior looks almost just like the one I have BUT the tent end bunk is now a slide out instead.

I guess if you don't want the bells and whistles don't buy them. Not being mean just stating the way it is. I like a few bells and whistles so I spent the 70K for a nice truck and will be spending 125K down the road for a nice toy hauler but that doesn't mean you or anyone else has to. Its called choices, we all make the choices we want to make to get through life the way we choose...like buying a Harley, no one made you purchase that Harley, you could have bought a cheaper Honda but you chose the Harley! I also chose the Harley but that was my choice as it was yours. If your happy with your truck and a simple Work & Play camper then by all means have them and enjoy!
