If campgrounds have a rule, it probably is just to prevent motorcycle joyriding throughout the campground. Directly riding to and from the campsite should not be a problem, but you could find the rare campground that will prohibit motorcycles altogether.
I would agree. Your Harley is a licensed street operated vehicle. Barring access is discriminatory, something AMA likes to fight. However since its private property they can do as they wish, then that's the campground to avoid and let everyone know how bass ackwards they are.
I have had my HD to many CG's. Most I have heard is: "To and from site ONLY".
Maybe I am an old fuddy-duddy, but I would rather hear a Harley putting through a CG to the gate....over some BRAT on a bicycle screaming all day long, with parents who seem NOT to hear them.
My 03' sportster has screaming Eagle pipes with most of the baffles drilled out (a lot quieter than straight, but louder than stock). It is carbureted, so it MUST warm up with a bit of high idle choke. I NEVER idled it long, I NEVER "burped" the pipes...I NEVER heard a complaint.
HOWEVER...an owner of a private CG can do as they wish. I think a discrimination claim could be made against a state park (I have had mine in a few S.P.'s).
