Cargo Locks ---- Erratic

My 2008 HH2 has cargo locks that frequently refuse to unlock. If I wiggle the key long enough, they let go and unlock just fine. It's as if there is some internal obstruction to keep the lock from turning. They aren't sticky, just something obstructs the key from turning to unlock. Should I change them out for some new locks?

  • Does this do it with all keys? It makes me wonder if you have a key copy and not the original and the pins don't line up.
  • Have they always done this? If so they may not be adjusted correctly! The tab that turns on the inside is to tight, they can be adjusted by removing the lock, and reinstalling it minus any shims or washers, otherwise you may remove the tab, and bend it slightly, this should make turning the key a lot easier, but caution do not loosen it to much, or it may open by itself, you want slight pressure to keep it well closed.

Try pushing inward on the door as you try to turn the key.

  • try a little silicone spray first. open the door and watch what moves or might be dragging.
