Carlisle Tires

Well, had a total blow out on two year old tires with less than 1,200 miles. Went to Discount and now they told me they no longer carry Carlisle and are recommending the Goodyear Endurance. Had to buy one Endurance because that is all they had and gingerly drove home with the 3 other "may pops". Will be looking at the Goodyear to see how they hold up. Want to have the whole set to match. Was 105 degrees on the side of the highway while changing the blown out tire.
NOT too happy.

  • Goodyear tires "endurance" are made in Alabama and were created by the RV manufactures for trailers. They are made for straight line pulling only. I just bought a 2018 Jayco and those tires came on it. I talked to the head of Jayco engineering and he thought these new tires (1 1/2 years into production) were the best he has seen.

    Go Fish...........
  • Have had one Carlisle 'F' since 2013 (45,000 miles and tread getting thin), two since 2015 (in good shape), and one Sailun since 2014 (in good shape). Average 10,000+ per year. I also drive 60 when towing. I'll replace the thin tire with Carlisle or Sailun.
  • Looked on my local Discount stores web sit and sure enough non in stock. Bummer as I put Carlisle HD's on shortly before the GY Endurance came out. I never had a blowout with the previous 2 sets of GY Marathons so I'm hoping the Carlisle's treat me well. Disappointing to say the least and not very confidence inspiring.
  • I've had my Carlisles for over 3 years now and put thousands of miles on them. So far, no problems at all for me. I cover them when home, I keep them aired up to 80 psi (Max on the tire), and watch the "skidding" when making sharp turns or back-ups. I avoid as much as possible. I've not hit any curbs since I've had these, and inspect them before each trip. I still tow at 60 mph or slower, and only very seldom EVER get over 60. So far, the tread is even and flat, no dry rot evidences, and still going strong!

I had Carlisles on my previous camper for 4 years and sold them with the camper. They were still good.

But, things happen. Maybe as the above poster said, you picked up a nail and it blew the tire.
  • Not to start a war of words, it is not always the tires fault. Sometimes a nail in the tire, sometimes a pothole, sometimes a curb, and other road hazards
  • Not sure about the Goodyear's, but we have put Sailuns, on our 5'er last year and we put and average of 200 miles a trip and we take 1-2 trips monthly. Have NEVER had a problem with them, Before that we had the Carlisle like you and had the same problems. Going to start a "War" here, but go with the Sailun's and you will see the difference. Matter of fact going to put them on the tow vehicle as well at the end of the summer. Good Luck and Happy Camping !!!
  • First I've heard of problems with the newer Carlisle tires. I had a set for 3 or 4 years before selling the tt and never had a problem.

    Good luck with the Goodyears.
