Lot and lots of really bad advice, personal opinions, and propaganda. Bottom line, follow the laws of whatever state you are in. If the state requires a CDL for a trailer over a certain weight, and you feel you don't have to follow the law, go for it. At worst you will have to drop the trailer at the side of the road, and pay a driving out of classification ticket (somewhere between $100 and $1,000 in California) and get someone - maybe a tow truck - with a CDL tow the trailer out of sight of the cop, then try your luck again.
