Hello Boys and Girls!Just a, reminder, with pictures, to get up on your RV roofs and check for cracks in and on the caulking. Our RV is just entering it's 5th year of life. I missed getting up on the roof last year due to illness and I neglected to ask anyone to get up there for me. This winter I made it to Big River, CA for a month of Rest and Relaxation. I had the local wash crew stop by and clean the RV for me as the trip here from Canada was indeed a messy, dirty drive. The guys cleaned the roof as part of the job and said nothing about anything needing attention (I know, not their job to do so). Anyway, I dragged my fat a$$ up on the roof today to have a look as part of my due diligence RV maintenance. SIGH! The pictures say it all.Cheers All!PS: I did scrape off and clean the damaged sections and re-caulked with Dicor as best as I could. It will have to do until I get the rig back to Canada.

Yep, it doesn't take much but you have to keep up on it.I just bought a 5th wheel Toy Hauler and replaced 2 vent caps that were crumbling due to sun deterioration and used 3 tubes of Dicor over all the seams and still need 2 more to finish the entire roof.Not a hard job and it gives you good piece of mind knowing everything is sealed up.

After years of re-caulking my roof, I finally started using the Etrabond Roof Seal. I kinda wish I had switched over to it years ago.Look it up and check it out. There are lots of how to video on YouTube. My time spent on roof maintenance is becoming less and less each year.

I installed a new fan last summer and used Eternabond. If I like the way it holds up (which should be very well) I will be using it on the roof seams. Storing the Minnie in a building except for when we are on the road has really kept the caulking in good shape.

As of last month I don't worry about my rubber roof and I have zero caulking to worry about. RV Flex Armor was my solution to my failing rubber roof membrane after 5 years. Not the caulking, but the roof membrane.Never again will I have a rubber roof longer than it would take to get it to a RV Flex Armor installer and have it sprayed. Caulking how many feet of----I don't have those anymore either. Just wash it when dirty if you want to.

About 2 years ago I sealed all my seams with Eternabond tape. A little pricy but should last the life of the rig or me whichever comes first. :)

On my last fiver I covered the seams for the front and rear caps with Eternabond.. 6 years and it looked brand new , so when I got my new trailer that's the first thing I did... added a 6" strip on both front and rear..

What ever you use up there make it look like a quality OEM job.

One of my RV dealer service mgr made a comment that they were seeing more used units showing up with improperly applied sealant products especially on the roof which affected resale value and marketability.

I understand where you are coming from and I'm not wanting to "kill the messenger", but I think that statement from the dealer service manager is unimportant, in my mind. The sealant, even if not applied neatly, but seals correctly, goes a long way in preventing leaks, which in turn definitely affects resale value - for the better. In the previous poster, who posted the photo of his new fifth wheel with the applied tape on the front cap seam - it doesn't look very neat to me (as in even and not cool). I would've preferred a dark tape to blend in, but it's doing it's job and keeping moisture out and hence protecting the unit. Kudos to him.
