- kedanieExplorer IIWhen we go to Yellowstone/Fishing Bridge, we always go from Cheyenne to Casper and then take 20 to Thermopolis. Very scenic drive through the Wind River Canyon. From Thermopolis, take 120 to Cody. Once off I-25 the roads are all very well maintained 2 lane highways. We always overnight in Cody to arrive at Fishing Bridge early and enjoy the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody. Sure, you'll have to go over the pass to get there, but it's not nearly as bad as most make it out to be. Thousands of cars and RV's travel that route every day into Yellowstone.

I agree with jalichty directions going to Rawlins then to Lander etc. I like that way so much better.

That's the route we take when we go to Yellowstone. - jalichtyExplorerDriving all the way to Rock Springs and then up to Jackson and over to Moran and up to Fishing Bridge seems like a lot of driving to get away from Togwotee Pass, and, you still have to drive through Jackson to get there. Which, in my opinion, is way worse than going over Togwotee Pass since there is really very little traffic over Togwotee, especially compared to around Jackson. And, it's probably about 200-250 miles more travel.

Cherry - clydengailExplorerI agree with the I-80 to 247 route. Nice overnight or 2 in Coulter Bay at Jackson Lake in Grand Tetons if you don't want a long drive day.

Is the 'Append Signature:' Checked for 'This option will make your signature (if you have one) appear below your post'?
Of course, you must have a 'signature', in your profile, it seems you do. As far as I can see. - DesertHawkExplorerWe have enter via the Rock Springs Route & exited that way, it could be the easiest for climbs. However from Cheyenne, I'd use I-25 up to Casper then west from there to Moran Junction in the Tetons north of Jackson (miss having to tread your way on somewhat narrow city streets of Jackson). Jackson is a town in the Jackson Hole valley of Teton County.
Likewise, if in this area of WY: Overnighting Sites & Sights in the Douglas & Wheatland Area. Includes Guernsey & Fort Laramie Area.

As I mentioned the I-25 to Casper then US 20/26 to Moran in the Tetons, then up to Yellowstone. Thermopolis is off this route. One could go via Cody to Yellowstone as well & bypass the Tetons. More of a climb by going the Cody route. We entered via Cody once in the '90s. Came out that way in 2009.
We've gone by Thermopolis, WY twice to do a soak in the hot spring water at the State Bath House. Very neat. We overnighted in the Wind River Canyon in Aug '09 & at one of the Boysen State Park campgrounds by the lake some years ago. But each time, we had already gone to Yellowstone, before stopping.

Easiest Route would be the South entry from Rock Springs (US 191/189) & I have heard from Rawlins (US 287) is not bad, but it takes one up to US 26 which is basically like going to Casper then over. I've heard I-80 can have fierce sidewinds at times between Cheyenne & Rawlins. But have not driven it. I-25 can also have some nice winds blowing at times as well. After all it is in the plains. Lot of rolling grassland.
We have used the US 191 and/or US 189 a few times, but we were going up from farther west than Denver. Never used the up from Rawlins route. We exited from Moran to Casper, once (with a detour to the Hot Springs) & from Cody then to Casper (with a stop at the Springs) in 2009.
What I have on Yellowstone. - fj12ryderExplorer IIII-80 to 287 is the way we go with our toyhauler. It's about 470 miles. You shouldn't have any problems.
Several other ways if you're on a bike. :) - dshetronExplorerSorry, I don't know why my info doesn't show up.
