Class A Toyhaulers or alternatives

Looking for thoughts, suggestions on a Class A (or C) toyhauler OR alternative. Currently own a 2016 Open Range Roamer 339, but need to change up. The Hog MUST come along!! Any ideas, folks. I do like the simplicity of a Class A over a 5th wheel.

  • Someone built one a couple years back I thought was pretty cool, actually had 2 slides in/as the garage. Both slides came out with ramps for loading 2 bikes, one on each side, strap down but slides back in and go...pretty nice setup I thought.
  • We take multiple toys with us when RVing. Our toy collection out grew our toy hauler, so we went to a truck camper and enclosed trailer due to the weight we tow. Most Class C motor homes have a 5000 lb rating which should suffice for your use unless you are holding out on number of toys you want bring along. I would suggest getting an enclosed trailer that is as wide or almost as a wide as the RV you choose - This will allow you see it behind you when towing forward and backward. Regardless of size, get trailer brakes to ease the burden of stopping your RV and towed load. I use e-track on the floor and walls of the trailer - This allows me load different toys and strap them down plus strap items to the walls.
  • I wouldn't give up my bike either. If I were getting a Class A it sure wouldn't be a gasser toy hauler, but that's just me. I'd be getting a DP and putting my Harley in a trailer. I could put it on a lift but the bikes I've seen look pretty dirty hanging out behind a diesel. The other alternative is to always ride your bike in between camps and let someone else drive the RV. Got a full-timing friend and wife that do this.

The Canyon Star by Newmar and the Outlaw by Thor (A & C) are the two that come to mind that are still being built. Gulfstream & New Horizons both had them, but have been discontinued.

If you are looking at an enclosed trailer, then you have a ton of options. After our Raptor Toy Hauler we went to a Class A with trailer, fit our family need better.

LOL. I just went the opposite way. Selling my class A and bought a Raptor toy hauler. Keeping my enclosed trailer though.

  • I currently have a 28 foot C with a small enclosed trailer for my bike.
This has worked out good so far. You just have to be extra careful not to get yourself into tight spots. I've only bent the rear bumper twice by jackknifing the trailer while backing up. :S

I would prefer a C toy hauler but they are scarce as hens teeth.....unless maybe you can afford to pay MSRP and drive half way across the country to pick it up.
