Interesting, I think you are right.
"may be why it was discontinued in favor of the flexair they offer now" Correct me if I am wrong. The FlexAir is not offered in over 18K configuration.
I have always thought a Hybrid TrailAire regular air pinbox with a MorRyde for fore and aft would be the best! That is what had me interested in the FlexAir but I am just a bit over 18K ;) - Mile_HighExplorer

- esbeasleyExplorerI have had both and like the MorRyde better. Have put over 30k miles in 3 trips on it and have had zero issues. With the 2 Trailairs on two different trailers I had to add air weekly, which is a pain. Didn't notice much change in ride/handling between the 2 brands. All trailers had the MorRyde independent suspension installed on them - that alone makes any pin box sweet.
- Turlock_BillExplorerI added the 5th Airborne and am very happy with it took almost all the bounce and a lot of the chucking away! And if you travel the roads here in California you know you need all the help you can get!
- Mile_HighExplorerI have the tri-glide and love the hitch. It performs far better than the 5th airborne on my prior 5er. However, there have been a few failures I've heard about with tri-glide with the bottom plate breaking off which may be why it was discontinued in favor of the flexair they offer now. One in our group just busted yesterday. (I guess everything goes to heck when Lippert takes over :) as Lippert bought out Trailair several years ago).
But for comparison, we have also had several of the Mor-Ryde sheer springs fail and separate from the steel plate in our group.
Just FYI - you are doing the right thing reaching out to research. - Mile_HighExplorer

I was going to go with a Trail Air pin box but because my truck sits so high, I've found it difficult to get my 5er to be level. Lippert confirmed for me that changing to an air enhanced pinbox would raise the trailer nose 1 or 2 inches more. Yes, I know I could mod springs etc. to raise the entire trailer, just didn't want to do that.
that's odd, I added a 5th airborne to my Lippert 1621 and once mounted my FW sat exactly like it did before with the factory pin box.
I used the same mounting holes for both pin boxes.
Actually your top picture is not a Tri-glide, it's the standard Trailair. The Tri-glide has the addition of a Demco type movable plate at the bottom. - hbillsmithExplorerI think it's just that mortar has different models.

Nothing gimmicky about rubber cushioning. My new Mor/Ryde pin box tows way smoother than the old pin box.
Interesting, didn't know they made a plain one and wonder if that was the OEM or if the OEM was replaced by the Mor/Ryde. If so, I wonder why? - hbillsmithExplorerI didn't mean gimmicky, just meant mine is plain.
