Compromise

oh my goodness we are in the market and shopping now for a toyhauler.

size limitations are hampering me big time. we love state parks and want to keep it in the 36-38 ft range.

I want bath and a half. well the models with that are in the 39-40+ ft range mostly, and the FEW (like 2 models) I found smaller with 1/2 bath all have master and living/kitchen designs I don't like.

compromise. hubby says I have to do it :) but I don't want to. this is alot of money to be spending and I shouldn't have to compromise but as I see it, hitting all the 5th wheel toyhauler manufacturer sites, it seems I will be compromising on something.

we all say this time and time again, I wish I could design the floorplans.

and no, custom design is out of the question.

just wanted to know if any of you compromised when getting a toyhauler or if you did find that right fit design and are more than happy with it?

just chatting out some anxiety on this upcoming purchase.
  • I think the woman is going to compromise more. :)

Our issue is we are looking at a 38ft TH 5th wheel and now we imagine all the places we will go. We have to upgrade TV to a one ton dually. But when I think about it, we are going to get a 6 seater (two bench) truck, but that is a LOT of togethernes for three teens! And two big dogs. So now I imaging the trip getting to the park to be hellish!

    IDK....
  • In our family "compromise" is a must!

We wanted a TH - I wanted a 5'er DH did not want to give up the bed of his truck.

I searched high and low for a tow behind TH with a separate garage - with a "nice interior"....found a Rubicon 2900 - not perfect but works for our type of camping and we still go to many state parks in New York and PA. Only draw back is can't get to the bathroom while the slide is in - but if we stop for a quick overnight - we can get to it thru the rear door (not the garage door). We have been camping 45+ years and never had a trailer with a slide - neither of us wanted one but it seems that is about all you can find now a day ~ so we both compromised on that!
  • We did not compromise on the features that we wanted in our trailer, but we did compromise on where we could go. Our needs were very specific and with our Voltage 3905, we met them all and are very happy with our choice. BUT this is a 42ft. trailer, and that has its own set of compromises. As the others have said, it severely limits our choice of campgrounds, and I would venture to say that if you want to stay above 32ft. yourself, it will limit yours as well. It also made it mandatory that we purchase a newer truck, which we were hoping that we would not have to do.

That being said, we are still happy to have it, because it will do exactly what we want to do. We chose to give up our choice of small campsites for the ability to sleep two families in comfort, and to haul around our motorcycles and bicycles where we wanted to go.

For us, there is no perfect solution. We had to prioritize our needs and we made our choice based on what we wanted most. (as I am sure that a lot of people have done)
  • There is not doubt that a lot of previous camping sites closed to me when I upgraded from 30' to 37'. State parks (at least around here) are almost never an option anymore. Oh well, I knew it before I made the purchase and we get along just fine.
  • You may find it difficult to find campgrounds that will take that size trailer. I wish we had known this before we got our 36ft fifth wheel.
  • ABSOLUTELY having to compromise
Were in the market for a new T H and only have enough truck and yard space for something 32' or less and ~13K loaded. Can't be a 10' garage model either since the Rhino is just a little longer than that. Would like a slide or two in the living space, but that adds weight.
A larger truck is out as well since I am retired and D W will be soon.
Its been a very frustrating search to say the least, but were getting close, whatever it ends up being is going to have to do, no chance of correcting a mistake at this point in life.

    Good Luck in your search
