Well...I have gotten 5 years and about 30000 miles on the China Bombs on our 3055RL Big Horn. I did put the spare on last spring because one tire was looking a bit tired....
Local place told me that most all ST tires are made in China and they've had good luck with "their" brand. The above statement seems to prove his point, and makes me wonder if this forum isn't a little overly crazy on the China tire bomb topic.
According to the local guy, LT's do not have the sidewall to handle the backing up loads that get put on a 5'ver. My local guy seems to know what he's doing and had him do stuff for many years. I doubt if he uses the internet that much if at all.
So everyone on this forum who has reported bad experiences with China manufactured ST tires don't know what they're talking about? It's all made up? Have you read the majority of the "China tire" post over the last, oh, 7 to 9 yrs? Have you done a search on the internet about China manufactured ST tires, where it's rare to unlikely that people from this forum had anything to do with the reports? Have you ever picked up an "E" rated Carlisle tire, (or pick almost any other China manufactured brand of ST tires), and really compared it to an "E" rated Michelin XPS RIB or a Duravis, etc? See which one weighs the most....actually FEEL the difference in thickness of of the sidewall, then ask the "local guy", why such a difference..Ask the "local guy" why all the reports that one can "google" on the internet that gives most of these China manufactured ST tires a far less than stellar review.
But, maybe you're right....China has a high quality standard built into products they export to the US....:R..So their tires must be good....I know of only one tire at this time that I would even consider buying that is manufactured in China and it's a Sailun tire because they have attained ISO certifications of TS16949 and ISO14001 ..These are standards "MY" company here in the USA HAS to meet to validate that we manufacture a high quality product and , have these processes in place in our manufacturing process . We keep records of all manufacturing processes and Quality processes, as well as individual training records for every employee that works at our plant in their specific field. This validates that higher standards of quality are built into and a part of our manufacturing process. These certifications are a must in the industrial world today, or we wouldn't be in business and Auto manufactures like GM, Ford, Chrysler, Volvo, Mercedes, BMW, VW, Subaru and Honda, to name a few wouldn't be signing contracts with our company to purchase our brake calipers for their vehicles..We can include even more manufacturers when we add in my companies ABS systems and tire manufacturing.
The USA, as well as quite a few other countries use these higher standards in their manufacturing processes to compete in the worldwide market, it appears that the norm in China is to produce mass quantities of low quality products, ship them to the USA and our government is afraid to say anything to them for such lousy products because, I guess, we don't want to make them mad at us, or we're just afraid of them.....:h
I digressed...my bad...bottom line, maybe your "local guy" SHOULD look up information on the Chinese tire manufacturers on the internet...it's NOT just rv'ers filing complaints on these mass produced low quality tires....it's there for the research...
