Hate to disagree because normally this would be a good idea but this is probably going to be a warranty issue and they will use ANY excuse to deny him.
I would not touch that crack in any way other than to perhaps put some Gorilla tape over it to keep moisture out.
I agree. Stop drilling the crack could cause more problems than it solves.
