I believe I would Opt for the Diesel. Diesels are way more durable than a Gas powered Vehicle. I have a Friend that has an F250 Powerstroke Diesel. He has 900,000 Miles on it. It is still going Strong. You cannot do that with a Gas Engine.
Ya mean like this one
1.2 MILLION Miles on a Gasser Ford
Or this one
Million Mile Chevy
Or this one
Million Mile Chevy 350
Or this one
Million Mile Gas SuperDuty
Diesels DO NOT outlast Gas Motors now a days. Simple Google Search will show you reports after reports of DIESEL and GAS motors having to have top end and or total rebuilds.
Properly maintained either trucks motor will probably outlast the owners use of the truck. (trade it in every 3-5 years)
OP... for your weights, 16k plus loaded.. diesel. Its not really a gas vs diesel debate.. its a matter of math. 16k maxes out most gassers (and some diesels btw) and you get a much higher rating with some diesel trucks.
Thanks!

My diesel work truck have typically lasted longer than the gassers.
The gassers are generally worn out at 180-190K.
The diesels have gone 250-280.
That does not mean gassers can't last a long time. Nevertheless diesels tend to last longer when run hard on a daily basis, however I don't believe the longevity verdict is out on the newer more complex DEF models.
More to the point the OP needs a diesel to pull his 16K rig on a full time basis.
Buying a gasser for the OP's purposes would be a mistake.
