We were thinking of travelling from Buffalo NY to Cape Hatteras, but are now intrigued by Delaware Seashore and possibly parking on an ocean site late Sept. Of course we would still need to stop half...

X2 on Assateague Island National Seashore. Sites in the ocean side campground loops are just over the dune from the beach.
Also there is Assateague Island State park. One loop has electric hookups.
Our favorite campground for Cape Hatteras is in the National Seashore on Ocracoke Island. Also a nice (free) ferry ride to the island.
