    What that fails to clarify is that sidewall stiffness of a ST tire is greater than a typical P type tire, "however it is LESS than a typical LT tire"..

    Good point.
    I would add the LT tire will do anything the ST does and do it better/longer.
    And;

    according to the link Tirerack says;

    Trailer Tires vs. Passenger Vehicle Tires

    "Also consider that Special Trailer (ST), as well as Light Truck (LT) tires are fully rated for trailer applications. This means ST- and LT-sized tires can carry the full weight rating branded on the sidewalls when used on a trailer."

    "Generally" (not every case)) for a LT to have the correct load capacity means moving up in load ranges which is a pressure increase. In your case moving from a ST E at 80 psi your going to move up to a 110 psi rated tire which gives a much stiffer sidewall.

    Moving up to a good USA made LT will give you several years of trouble free trips if you treat your tires right.
  • I just replaced my Tow Max with Sailun S637. The Tow Max had about 6000 miles on them and less that a year old. Three of the four on the ground had cord or belt separation. I assume the spare is still OK. The Sailun are built just like the Goodyear G614's with all steel construction but are about $100 per tire less. Goodyear in including the price of insurance in their cost to cover any trailer damage if one blows out. I carry insurance on my trailer so I don't need double coverage.

  • I'm, also, using the Sailun S637 and have been trouble free so far.

    Those are the tires I installed. So far so good.

  • You need to find out what your axles ratings are on your trailer for certain before deciding which way to go. Those Tow Max tires are delivery tires so getting them off is a wise decision but without axles rating you are guessing.
    Do a search in this forum for "China bombs" and "XPS RIBS" and read some of the threads. There is a lot of good information, opinions, facts, hearsay and poppy cock to fill a few hours of your day.
    I moved from ST to LT and then ultimately to the H rated 17.5 inch wheels and tires like ME AGAIN suggested in the post above. My LT's were excellent compared to the ST's that had bulges in both the sidewalls and the tread from internal failures. I caught them before they blew. I move to the H-rated tire for capacity after upgrading the axles and when I wanted new wheels.

    I think all of the Heartland BC models 38' or larger have derated 7000# axles. The only LT tire rated high enough for their GAWR is the LT235/85R16G.

    On Edit: Heartland offers the Goodyear G614 RST tire option. Normally the Heartland aluminum rims are rated for the increased load capacity and psi rating requirements of the GY tire. Heartland may offer you a better purchase price on the G614 than the normal retail outlets.

  • If the wheels are rated to 110 pounds inflation! If you have to buy wheels then go to 215/75R17.5 tires and rims. Same diameter and rated to 4805 pounds each. Chris
