Do you leave your fridge door open?

Mold won't grow on a clean surface, moisture or no moisture. So thoroughly clean it, let it dry for a day or two & then close it up. Never had a problem with a smelly fridge by doing that.

It's not about cleanliness, it's about climate and moisture. If nights are cool, water from the air condenses inside the fridge. Only a tiny amount, but over days or weeks it is enough for mold to grow, no matter how clean the surface.

I always clean and dry frig thoroughly, then close the doors. It sits all summer, never a problem. If there is no moisture or food particles for bacteria to grow on, there is no problem.

In a pinch I have also used a whole role of paper towels. Just stick the whole roll in where the fridge and freezer meet.

Well, if he actually can't get the door open at all, then IMO his best bet would be to plug the drain to the outside and put in a fairly large amount of desiccant to keep the moisture down. Mold will not grow well without moisture. That's, of course, after cleaning the inside thoroughly.

And yes, we put a couple towels over the doors near the hinge so the doors stay open. Our fridge is close to the peninsula when the slide is in, but it can be opened a couple inches.

I can't imagine the frig has zero room between the island. There would be lots of rubbing going on down the road, surely they have an inch or so to crack the doors.

You all don't get it! The OP has NO room to open the door at all when the slide is retracted. It's hard to imagine that the refrigerator would butt right up to the island, but I suppose it's possible.

With that scenario ... the refrigerator pushed up so close to the island the doors CANNOT open.... even a little bit ... what's the alternative! Sounds like THAT is what the OP is asking?

I have never been able to turn a refrigerator completely off, even after cleaning it, then shutting the door tight for more than just a few hours before odors start forming.

many good suggestions, they all do the job. have also done similar to terryallan, wipe it down, let dry few days, add bowl of cat-litter in freezer & one in frg, close doors.

This is just but yet another good example why people NEED to make the salesman bring in ALL the slides BEFORE purchasing.

I've seen RV's where you had no access to the bathroom, fridge, sink,closets, etc when the slides were in.

All is fine and good when you are parked and all set up with slides deployed, but while on the road you may as well be driving a car because you don't have any access to all what an RV is supposed to offer. :(

Buy one of these. You should have at least this much room. This little gadget will keep your fridge free of mold.It keeps both the fridge and freezer open. Find at any camping store. Good Luck. :C

Save yourself the cost of the gadget, just put a folded towel in the door, as mentioned above from freezer to refer. The doors don't need to be wide open we are talking a half inch at most.
We have one of those 5er's that Rockhillmanor refers to the big slide blocks the refer, not much clearance, but OK with the towel, and no issues.

some trailers come with little plastic clips which helps keep the door open. Mine has a tab on both sides I just flip over
