dripping AC

Hello Folks,
We recently made a run from DFW to Temple, TX (2-3 hrs) in 90 degree heat. We ran the generator and the main AC along the way so the rig wasn't steaming hot when we arrived. When I opened the coach on our arrival, there was a large area on the island counter top directly under the main AC of water. I watched for a moment and noticed the AC unit was dripping inside the rig. Luckily the drip location is directly over the kitchen sink (woohoo!) so we can remove the covers and let it drip if need be when we are going down the road. Once I hooked up the rig and leveled her, fired up the shore power and magically, the dripping stopped. The condensation then began to run outside down the gutter (like it is supposed to).

Any ideas as to why this might happen? I'll clean the filters, etc. but was wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

Of course it is Texas in the summer, so humidity and heat abounds. I bet the elements are the likely culprit.

What do you guys think?

Thanks so much!
Tom

  • IS your 5vr level when being towed or nose high?

Obviously the evap coil drip pan drain holes work cause condensation ran down/off roof when you had 5vr parked/set up.
So sounds like with the high humidity more condensation developed and was carried over/leaked over out of drip pan bouncing down the road.
  • Our other camper A/C suddenly dumped a bunch of water inside the camper. Took it to Camping World and they said the drain hole was stopped up. He said they make thee the size of a straight pin and so he drilled it out larger. He said he has had to do many this way. Seemed to solve the problem.
  • I don't know your model AC of course but on ours, if the filter is dirty and it's very humid out, it creates enough vacuum inside it to "suck" a small amount of condensation water out and it drips inside below.

If I keep the filter clean it does not do it.
  • Thermostat on 72...yes, I 35 has some rough patches...if it was freezing up seems like it would do that when parked as well as under tow...
  • is your coils clean?what temp is the thermastat on
im thinking you just were on rough roads and the water splashed out the drain tray
