Dune Sport Toy Hauler

We ordered a new camper from Dune Sport, the manufacturer, Dynamite Toy Haulers, and the seller are the same. It was back ordered which seemed fine at the time, but we did not know that they were going to leave water in the hot water heater and lines and deliver it to Colorado in November. Everything froze and broke. They refused to take any responsibility for the damages. We had issues with the air conditioner being improperly installed and broken by them. The veneer was cracked in places. The kitchen cabinet was not attached to the frame. The loft bed mechanization is poorly designed and so we have had issues with it jack knifing when we try to put it up or take it down. We were excited to order from them because they were so customizable, but I wish I had read forums before hand and saved my self the heartache. They do not have bad reviews on the BBB because if the complaints are unresolved they are erased/closed. I am not the only one who has had a bad experience with them. My advice is to go see them for yourselves in person before ordering and really look at them, touch them, try to operate the couches, beds, etc..... and please check for water before bringing one to a freezing climate.
  • Ah, let me update my previous post. We've now owned our Dune Sport for 3 years. We'd had a problem with the fresh water tank leaking since the beginning and despite a couple of checks by our local RV repair place without totally removing the tank they could figure out the problem. Recently, determined to work it out before a desert trip where we would need all 50 gallons that the tank is supposed to hold.

My husband finally located the hole. Apparently when one of the floor tie downs was installed by DuneSport, they drilled a hole through both the floor and the fresh water tank.

We are still struggling with repairing the pull down bed. When the showed us how to work it when we purchased it, the sales guy had to use most of his weight to pull it down. We now know that it's because the wheel system was mis installed and one of the wheels is flattened, making the roller motion difficult to happen. To fix it we will need to take it apart, replace the flattened wheel then put it back together. A task that sent difficult, it just takes 3-4 people to take the system apart due to the size and weight. We will eventually do it ourselves since the labor cost would be expensive.

Oh, and don't forget the fit issue with the back loading door where you can see daylight out one upper corner when closed. We keep watching to make sure we don't end up with water leaking in at that point in the rain. So far, hasn't happened but we're trying to figure out a piece of flashing that won't obstruct the operation of the loading door but will keep rain out when we start getting back to normal amounts of rain here in Calif.

So, I am really glad the recent purchaser has had a good experience with DuneSport...but, that wasn't my experience.

Mod's note: I deleted the weird post that bumped this old thread. I'll leave yours up since it has new info. I'm sorry you're still having trouble. Good luck.
  • Too bad you can't give negative stars.

The build is cheap. Like others, I was promised 3 months delivery in early 2013 and the delivery was more than twice that. I bought the 16 foot model. It has so little storage that it's a joke. No useful lower cabinets. No external storage. Only 4 floor tie down points.

We had Problems with the mechanics of the loft bed that we had to troubleshoot ourselves. The wall insulation is thin and spotty.

Like another reviewer, our roof tore within months. The top edge of the aluminum siding was so ragged that it cut through the edge of the roof just from road vibration according to our local repair shop. Dune Sport said we clearly scraped the trailer against something that tore the roof edge. There's no way that could have happened based on how it tore. Our local shop said the roof was incorrectly installed and showed us piece by piece what they did and what should have been done.

I wish I'd forfeited my deposited and walked away from the purchase.
  • I have a Dunesport also. Only went that route because I needed the wheelchair accessibility and roll in shower. I have had a bunch of issues with it. They took care of me for the first main issues but more have come up. Well see what they decide to do. They definitely shortcut things.
  • Wow surprised you had any issues, we bought ours 5 years ago and picked it up in AZ in FEB 2009, and every bit of our experience was a good one. I use my TH alot and even in zero degree weather. I have even promoted them myself and have heard nothing but good things from the people who have actually bought them.
  • Sorry you ran into problems. This is the downside of having it delivered, basically once it leaves the dealer/factory you own it.

Is the warranty taking care of the non-water damaged items?
