I have it in my mind that they catch fire easy. What are your thoughts?

Thought:
Thirty years as a paid F/F - been to all kinds of fires.
Investigated same also.
NEVER had one caused by an electric blanket.....but I'm sure it could happen (Murphy's Law) if used improperly, really old or damaged.
You should always have smoke, CO, and propane detectors.
Lots more fire hazards to worry about in your RV or sticks and bricks than an electric blanket.

Well we no longer use an electric blanket. When you wake up with your bed on fire it tends to sour you on them. Ours was a dual control, fairly new, never been abused. It shorted out where the controls plugged into the blanket. We were very lucky because I woke up when it popped.
Yes they are nice, but Google electric blanket fire and educate yourself. No more for us. Flannel sheets, nice quilt and a HW to spoon with!!!! It don't get any better than that!!!! LOL
You tell a firefighter of thirty years to google electric blanket fires because you had one short out, 30 years as a firefighter but his opinion is worthless? They are not a common occurrence, yes they happen, but not often.
I was a firefighter for 25 years and never saw one start a fire either.
Cars catch fire also, do you still drive one?
Chill Dude! I did not say his opinion was worthless. You are reading something into it that is not there. I was directing my comments at the uneducated about the dangers of electric blankets. And I was stating my experience with them. Your is experience is different than mine, as is apparently your opinion.
