electric fireplace

Keep this in mind. It took me 3 years to finally get this done because I kept telling myself I was going to do it in the spring. When spring would come around the stores had them all pulled from the shelves and I would have to wait again.

I will finish the install this spring but at least I got the insert purchased and set in place. It throws pretty good heat too.

Well I got it set in place. Almost a perfect fit. It will need very little trim to make it pretty. Probably going to make a little stand for it to set on with some sort of vent in it for cold air to get sucked in off the floor. That will raise it up enough to fill the gap on top.

Well I just got home from Menards. They had an 11% rebate sale going on so I picked up the fireplace insert I have been looking at getting. Gonna go run the slides out and turn on the furnace and get it warmed up in there a bit. Gonna do a temporary test fit to see what I need to mount it. It looks like a hinge will work as well if the cable splice doesnt work. With the rebate it will come to $178 so the price isnt too bad.

I'm no electrical engineer but from what I read it has to do with the coax doubling as the power source for the tracking system on the dish.

I always wondered why just a splice wouldnt work. Never tried it but I did have a guy next to me last summer try to hook it up through his trailer cable and I seen first hand that didnt work. He thought he got a bad dish and came over to see if I would trade him to troubleshoot. When his worked for me and mine didnt work for him it was time to investigate. I started following his cable and seen it screwed to the trailer. When we hooked up properly it worked fine.

I have some of those F connector splice thingys. I will have to try one next year. If it works I will just run a short cable down to my box and leave the end loose in there. That would surely cure my problem.

that could be true perhaps for a splitter as I think it takes a special one (or is that a rumor?) but a standard "F" connector it seems to me that it would work. that connection is no different from the sat in one on the outside wall of the RV?

Between the electric fireplace and the Cheap Heat system in our 5th wheel, we've never used the propane furnace. In fact, since my wife almost always uses the convection oven for baking, we've never had to refill our propane cylinders since we took delivery of the 5th wheel in May 2014. We like and use ours; YMMV....

We have been toying with this idea also. We do not seem to have any storage space issues in our fifth wheel, so the loss of this much will not matter to us.
