Yes, back 30 years ago you could save money that way. Before home water-heaters were super-insulated and superefficient.
Much like RV water-heaters are still.
We all need to recall that RV water-heaters and furnaces are still the same basic designs they were 20 or more years ago. Unlike home units that have become much, much more efficient.
