Electric Slide problems...

The slide on our Wilderness 255BHS is having intermittent problems with extending and retracting. So far by hotwiring the motor and trying various configurations of power sources (truck, house battery, converter) I have found that any one source will power the slide when it decides to work. When it fails I can hear a click down at the motor and then you get nothing. It leads me to belive there is a relay or some device on the motor that may be failing? I'm not talking about the slide controler by the way, already took that out of the equation to test.

Anybody know what the deal is with these motors going bad or having intermittent relay problems? Is there a relay down there?

  • It could have a relay, that seems to be the preferred wiring method but I don't think most manufacturers use it. Unless you can get a wiring diagram, or call the manufacturer, I guess you may have to trace the wiring. Have you pulled the switch off the wall and looked at the contacts? We had one with burnt contacts we also had one with a bad motor that was intermittent like yours. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. We replaced the motor (easy to do-$250) and it now works all the time.
