Extend-a-room review for toy hauler

Hello. I am considering the extend-a-room screen house that installs on the ramp of a toy hauler. Wondering if anyone who has purchased this what their opinion is of it. How did the install go, does it hinder ramp /garage access when not in use, is it well made, etc... TIA, -john

  • The 8' screened porch added a nice bit of square footage to our unit, but we used ours more as base to gather and then go elsewhere. If you have group/family that has someone who is usually staying at camp, there are fewer downsides to this setup.

Ours had a frame structure that pinned in place and would not work with deck rails installed. You would have to choose between open with rails or enclosed with cover based on weather. The mounts for both should be able to coexist.
  • Thank you to those who responded. I have a voltage toyhauler with the "party deck" package. Not sure how well the screen room would work with that railing system the deck package comes with. Based on the responses above, it doesn't sound like its worth the effort/hassle/cost to make the leap just yet. Thanks again.
  • For long trips (3+ days) we will go ahead and set it up. It takes about 15 minutes to put together but when a rain storm hits, it is nice to have because you are a couple of feet off the ground and dry! Sometimes we'll have guests sleep out back on a blow up bed. Once we get the bigger TH with a garage, I doubt we'll ever own another outback room.
  • We thought about one but out TH being 36' not too many campgrounds have long enough sites to leave the ramp open.....
  • We had one on our first toyhauler (Vortex).
The one we had used an awning that supported the curtain walls. We could close the ramp door while leaving the awning and walls up.

Was real nice to have on a longer trip. It did take a bit to put up and take down, so on shorter trips we tended to not use it.

We liked it enough, we are considering getting one for our current toyhauler.

    Sam.
  • We had one from Camping World on our Weekend Warrior. Although it was nice once set up, it did not offer security if left unattended with our our open floor plan TH. We ended up returning it because it too too much effort to setup and tear down as we came and went.
