Extended warranty on a 2009 5er?
Is this a good thing? Should we purchase an extended warranty, since the rig is 8 years old?

I might consider it. When I purchased mine used I bought a reasonably priced warranty to cover major items, just in case. Once I became more familiar and comfortable with the unit I let it go. Figured it to be insurance against the cost of any major repairs.
