F-150 Ecoboost, built in generator

So, this maybe an "FW too far." I am enamored of the F150 ecoboost. 11,000 pound towing capacity, and from what I've read, plenty of power. The tricky part would be hitch weight, under 1200 pounds. On top of that, I want a built in generator. Are there any FW's that would fit the bill, or should I get real and stick to TT's? I did run across someone pulling a Keystone Cougar 315res with the ecoboost, but it had some mods, Timbrens and Hellwig helper springs.

    What sort of real world fuel economy does an eco thingy get in town? My 2004 Duramax/Allison saw 20 highway on occasion. My 4.10 rear end equipped Cummins dually sees 17.5 unloaded highway fuel economy all the time. Of course I did not buy my Cummins for a grocery getter. I bought it to work towing my fiver. If you need a daily driver then get the eco and be sure to get a well matched size trailer for it.

    LOL For those not in the know, Frederick is about an hour west of where I live. CA or bust! I always wondered why you did not see more generators in FW's. The up- front weight would explain it. The ecoboost gets much better mpg than your diesels empty, which it usually would be. I can get a 2011 ecoboost for about the same money as a 2008 Duramax.....

  • We just got back from a trip to the beach my boy was pulling his 30 foot alumilite trailer WITH THE ON BOARD GENERATOR pulled like a champion. he has a 2013 ecoboost 1/2 ton Ford and it performed as well as my 1998.5 Dodge ram 2500 did. his trailer is about 2500 lbs lighter then my 5th wheel. and I do get far better milage but the truck can do it, and do it well, I have seen it and we are headed up the the High Sierras in about 3 weeks for another vacation.

    When have we seen gas engines pulling trailers or boats in the past , and getting 10.5 ,I was lucky to get 8 pulling with any weight with gas, pulling 13K with a diesel I see 12 once in awhile, but on average 10-11 ., and certain condition's down to 9 . I agree if you want to tow heavy go diesel, but 10.5 is nothing to scoff about towing trailers. Too good of reviews with these newer gas engines to overlook.
  • Thanks. I thought that is what you would say. I'll stick to TT's. And yes, I have heard of Nash, even looked at a few while vacationing in OR.
  • The ECOBOOST means nothing...you only have a 1/2 ton truck and only the smallest and shortest FW out there might work...

    If you are serious about a FW get yourself a cable truck...minimum 3/4 ton truck and diesel if you can afford it

    Howdy Diver. Any of the smaller 5th wheels I have seen have no provision or room for a generator in the front. I suspect if one the generator may add additional weight to an already to heavy for your half ton hitch weight. Have you considered any of the Nash Brand. They are all pre compartmented for generator and are a sturdy built unit. All the weights of the Nashes I am familiar with would suit up nice with your dream truck.
